History

IRMC Park is located on North Seventh Street in the center of vibrant downtown Indiana, a place with both a colorful past and future. The park itself sits at the bottom of the most famous hill in Indiana, Vinegar Hill, associated with the town's hero and claim-to-fame, Jimmy Stewart, and the home he lived in as a child. The hill itself has been closed for over a decade due to dangerous disintegrating steps but, along with the new park, is in the process of reconstruction and renovation to highlight its history and live up to its full potential as a link between the neighborhoods of the borough and downtown Indiana. Now, the slope of the steps is subtle and the retaining wall presents itself with a sophistication represented by clean concrete adorned with a red brick trim.
The park includes many updates and renovations to North Seventh, including wider, brick sidewalks, a newly paved road, and a newly installed brick and black-steel archway highlighting the entry to the park with the IRMC name enblazened on the criss-crossed steel. The project will also be adding picnic benches for families and community members to use in the hopes of creating a stronger community space.

Below, we've included a picture of North 7th before the renovations, and boy has it changed!!
