The Beginnings of a Partnership

Starting in 2010 a consulting company by the name of EG&G Incorporated formed a partnership with the Borough of Indiana, Downtown Indiana Inc. (a community based group focused on revitalizing downtown Indiana), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), Indiana County, PennDOT, and various community members to begin a collection of projects that would revitalize the area. More information can be found by clicking here EG&G Inc.

Among these projects were numerous infrastructure developments like fixing roads and curbsides. The latest of the projects is the new downtown area to which this blog is dedicated, IRMC Park and the Vinegar Hill Steps.

The design posted above was created by EG&G Inc.

The design to the left was created by EG&G as a projected vision for the IRMC Park area. Unfortunately this design could not be implemented in full, however the finished project will still add a modern appeal to the town with a serene public space for all to enjoy.
The IRMC Park area is scheduled to be finished by November 22nd. Just in time for the It's a Wonderful Life Festival. This special annual event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony for the park area along with many other fun festivities.

So Why a New Park?

IRMC Park, aside from its function as a face-lift for Downtown Indiana, also fulfills a number of other goals held by community members. First and foremost, the new park was created to provide a social space for members of the community to enjoy that can be used for activities from casual picnics for two in the sunshine to concerts and events that the whole community can enjoy together. Along with this, the hopes are also to bring students out into the downtown area (before 10 pm, that is...) and create a more cohesive overall atmosphere for the town as a whole.

Along with these goals, downtown Indiana also acts as the county seat and heart of the town, so the ultimate goal of this project is to create an increasingly vibrant downtown area to encourage visitors and businesses to move into town and make the area grow even MORE than it has been in recent years!

The park has also brought attention to our region, with new articles written in Pittsburgh newspapers which can only mean good things for Indiana tourism and a local economy boost!!
